The Preps have been incredibly lucky to enjoy visits from Fire Rescue Victoria over the past two weeks. During the first session, we learned about the difference between safe and dangerous fires, as well as important ways to stay safe if a fire occurs at home. We practised the key message: “Crawl down low and go, go, go.”
The firefighters also encouraged us to talk with our families about fire safety and to create a clear plan, including choosing a safe meeting place outside the home.
On Monday, the firefighters returned with their fire truck, and we had the exciting opportunity to try using the (very heavy!) water hose ourselves. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that we will remember for a long time.
In preparation for our take-home reading program in Term 2, students were introduced to two digital library platforms available for their use: Little Learners Love Literacy and the ePlatform digital library. Together, we explored these platforms and read a selection of Level 1 texts.
Our focus was on practising phonemes that have been introduced so far—m, a, t, s, i, and d—helping students build confidence and reinforce their early reading skills.
Our focus for Maths over the past two weeks has been revision of some key concepts such as subitising, patterns, counting and comparing collections.
We wish all students and families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to seeing you on the first day of school- Monday 20th April.
