The Prep students have made a wonderful start to life at Ashburton Primary School. They are settling in beautifully, building friendships, becoming familiar with the school environment, and enjoying their Specialist classes. Our Year 5 Prep Pals have played a special role in helping the students feel supported, confident, and connected within the school community.
This week, students began using the Soundwaves program, focusing on identifying and hearing initial sounds and final sounds in words.
In Reading, we are learning about the different parts of a book, including the cover, title, and author. Students are enjoying exploring books and identifying letters, words, and sentences both in texts and around our classroom environment.
We are practising writing our names and becoming confident using classroom resources such as whiteboards, markers, and scrapbooks.
In Mathematics, we are exploring numbers and developing our ability to subitise (recognise small quantities without counting).
Through Connected Learning, we are exploring what it means to be part of a community and discussing ways we can contribute positively to our classroom and school.
