The Grade 1 students have been very busy over the past 2 weeks!
Some of the things we have been doing include:
- Consolidating our knowledge of long vowel sounds in phonics
- Learning about different ways to tell stories (pictures, music and orally) and making comparisons between the different methods
- Practicing fluency with their fluency buddy
- Publishing our narratives
- Beginning to learn about informative texts, their features and how to write them
- Learning about mass - how to heft items and then to weigh and compare items using informal units
- Consolidating our knowledge of doubles and near doubles
- Solving worded problems involving addition
- Enjoying spending time as a grade 1 cohort during our Connected Learning sessions where we have been learning about “olden day” games and traditional methods of storytelling
- Learning about resilience in SMILE and how we can apply this to classroom and playground situations
