Reports

Semester reports will be available in the last week of this term via Compass. Teachers are currently working on making judgements on a range of student assessments, anecdotal notes and work samples to be able to provide you with an accurate snapshot of your child's learning.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0). All Victorian government schools will start using the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. We are using the revised mathematics curriculum for school reporting from the start of this year.. On your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability).
Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score. As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum (this semester's report) it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

Student academic growth is not a linear progression. Sometimes large steps are made, other times learning is consolidated and growth is less pronounced. As is the case every year, teachers will be contacting some parents directly before reports are released where student academic growth means they have fallen below their expected ‘range’ of achievement

Principals' Conferences

Mrs Roberts and myself have been busy in the last few weeks attending the Riversdale Network Conference and the State Principal's Conference. We were able to meet and discuss with principals from across the state about how their schools are run and the opportunities for the future. One of the big pushes from both conferences was around the introduction of the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) which will guide how students and their teachers approach their learning journey. Along with the recent introduction of updated Maths and English curriculum, it has formed and will continue to form a key component of our staff professional development. Thank you to Miss Simon, Miss Abbott and Mr Brisbane for standing in for us while we were away!

Parent Night

I encourage you to book your spot for the annual Parent Night on August 16th. Tickets will go on sale this coming Monday, June 16th. As always, the night promises lots of laughs and good times! This years theme as designated by the Year 1 Parent organising committee is Coachella. For more info see the separate news story in this week's newsletter.  Tickets are available here

Disco

Next Friday we will see the School Disco in the Hall. We need to thank the parent volunteers for their work before and during this event. It is solely a parent event, organised and run by the Parents' Association and we thank them for their work!
