Assembly delights

Last week's final assembly we were entertained by several amazing performances. Firstly, our Ashy Out Loud Junior group, made up of Prep to Year 2 students gave us a rousing rendition of Roar complete with actions!

Next up we listened to Kiaan as he both sang and danced to Shotgun. What a beautiful voice he has!

Finally Aimee from Year 1 played the piano to "Always With Me" from Spirited Away

Yr 4 News

We’ve been busy wrapping up our term in Year 4 - Here are some of the highlights!

Year 4  took part in a very special AuslanHub incursion with Kerrie, who shared her experiences as a deaf person. Students were fascinated to learn about the differences between cochlear implants and hearing aids, and learning some introductory Auslan signs.

After weeks of brainstorming, drafting, and illustrating, they were very proud to share their finished pieces with the Year 2 students on Tuesday afternoon. The younger students enjoyed listening to the creative stories, while the Year 4’s took pride in reading aloud and showcasing the messages of inclusion woven through their work.

Students have been revisiting multiplicative thinking, with a focus on the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. They explored how understanding one operation can help solve the other and have been practising applying this knowledge to a range of problems.

Latest from Yr 5

Year 5 Newsletter

The last few weeks of Term 3 have been jam-packed with visitors, incursions, athletics, and so much more!

Our Year 3 to 6 students had the chance to attend the Ashy Olympics at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track. We were lucky with beautiful weather, and it was fantastic to see everyone get involved. A special mention goes to our Year 5s, who showed wonderful teamwork and initiative by helping with events on the day. We are very proud of the students who made it through to division and even prouder of the way they celebrated their own achievements.

In the classroom, students have been busy preparing their own Poetry Slams. Linking with our Connected Learning topics, they chose from important global issues such as malnutrition, child labour, access to healthcare, education, and water and hygiene. Students brainstormed their ideas, wrote powerful poems, and performed them using expression, repetition, and passion. Their performances were both inspiring and moving.

We were also very fortunate to welcome John, a Year 5 parent, who visited to share about his role at World Vision. His presentation gave students an insight into how World Vision helps those in need around the world. The students were thoroughly engaged and inspired by his talk. We thank John again for his time and generosity.

It has been a busy and rewarding term for our Year 5s, and we are so proud of their efforts and achievements!

Yr 6 News

We can’t believe it’s already the end of Term 3 – Term 4 is just around the corner! The students are eager and excited for the upcoming school holidays to recharge, ready to return for their FINAL term of primary school. It’s been a big few weeks full of energy, creativity and achievement. Over the past two weeks, students have been:

  • Exploring mean, median, mode and range through hands-on activities – including a fun Scrabble-based challenge! Students generated their own data sets and calculated each measure of central tendency.

  • Practising and performing poetry in small groups, showcasing both their understanding of poetic devices and their performance skills. It’s been great to see their confidence grow on stage.

  • Presenting their Call to Action projects, which they have been working on over the past fortnight. The final presentations were thoughtful, creative and inspiring to watch.

  • Expanding their mathematical knowledge in multiplication, learning to solve problems using the grid method, lattice multiplication and the vertical algorithm.

  • Doing an amazing job at the Ashy Olympics, showing great sportsmanship and team spirit. A number of students went on to compete at GIDSSA, with several making it through to the Division level – we wish them all the best for next term!

A huge thank you to all the families who came to our Expo this week – the students absolutely loved sharing their learning with you and showcasing what they’ve been working on.
