From the Principal

Library books back

Mrs Robinson in the library wants to send out a gentle reminder that ALL library books need to be returned by December 1st. This will allow for enough time to conduct a stocktake of all the collection to make sure we have what we should!

Mini Olympics

It was great to see so many parents and relatives out in the crowd for last week's Mini Olympics. Across the school yard, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students ran, jumped and threw their hearts out in a variety of events. We need to thank Mr Worlley for organising the afternoon (and the beautiful weather), our Year 6 students who displayed their leadership skills in running each station, and of course our wonderful athletes.

Swimming

Swimming lessons are due to start for our junior students on Monday December 1st, with our Year 3/4 students starting Wednesday, December 10th. Each group will head to Korowa Girls' School pool for six swimming lessons. Look for requests for helpers via a newsfeed and Signup as we look to get assistance with numbers on the bus and organisation.

Parent Helper Morning Tea

Don't forget the Parent Helper Morning Tea next Friday. We want to say thank you for the assistance you provide! RSVP via this link

Breakfast Club Update

Breakfast Club Update

Our Thursday morning (and recess) Breakfast Club 'Grab & Go' program has continued to be a hit since it's implementation at the the beginning of term. Who knew carrots would be so popular?!

A reminder that Take Home Food Packs are available for families upon request. These can be ordered weekly, fortnightly, monthly, whenever! You just need to let Rachel Roberts or one of our friendly Office staff know. Breakfast Club Food Bank orders are placed weekly.

If you would like to organise Take Home Food Packs prior to the end of the school year in preparation for the extended holiday period, please let us know by Wednesday 3rd December. These packs contain nutritious and easy-to-prepare items like cereal, milk, fruit snack packs, soups, rice meals and canned goods such as baked beans and spaghetti.

Yr 1 News

Another busy two weeks in Year 1!

In Reading, we have been looking at digital text features and how the images and sounds help add to the meaning of the text. We watched short films with no words, but with amazing sound effects and then made some of our own sound effects on the iPads.

In Writing, we are writing about our opinions based on a range of topics like cats are better than dogs and recess and lunchtime should be banned. We wrote some of these in a letter and have sent them to some Year 1 students at another school. Hopefully we get a reply!

In Maths, we have been revising our Mathematical Modelling. We have been revisiting our fact families in addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

In Connected Learning, we have been working on our project for Expo. We are picking a product to improve and innovate on. We are making new designs, labelling our design and then describing what we did.

In Craft, we used our Reading text as inspiration to create some art. The book we read was called ‘Windows’ and told the story of one family’s life over the years, through the window of a little boy. We painted the view out of a window and then cut out a window frame and pasted it over the top.

We also had an awesome afternoon on Friday afternoon at the Mini Ashy Olympics. It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone tried their best. Thank you to the Senior Students and Mr Worlley for a great afternoon.

Yr 3/4 STEM

STEM
Year 3 and 4
Over the past few weeks, our Year 3 and 4 students have been developing their coding skills through engaging lessons on Code.org. They have been learning how to debug their programs, solve problems creatively, and understand the importance of reading instructions carefully when coding. Students have really enjoyed working through the online puzzles and game-based challenges, which have helped them build confidence and persistence as young programmers. It’s been fantastic to see their excitement and determination as they bring their ideas to life through code!

Latest in Yr 3

We are finishing up our unit on narrative writing and are excited to share our amazingly descriptive stories with you all at expo later in the term. We are now focused on poetry, learning all about what makes a poem a poem and the devices poets use. We are nearly through all our spelling sounds for the year and have been working on homonyms and homophones.

Our focus is now onto financial maths after finishing up our revision of fractions in Week 6. Students are learning all about equivalent amounts and will be starting a money investigation next week called Big Spender. Ask your child to play Hundred or Bust with you at home.

Our creative juices are well and truly flowing this term with amazing creations being made during Connected learning. We will send home some beautiful artworks and creations for you all, just in time for the gift giving season.

Some highlights from the students are:

  • I really liked writing my narrative, it was really fun.
  • I liked being able to create my own story.
  • I loved playing 100 or Bust
  • I liked making the images for my narrative.
  • I enjoyed the maths questions and problems.
  • I am doing really well at the Reading Olympics.

Yr 5/6 STEM

Year 5 and 6
Over the past few weeks, our Year 5 and 6 students proudly completed their Sphero Game Project, where they planned, coded and created their own interactive games using Sphero robots and the Sphero Edu app. Students showed impressive creativity and problem-solving as they tested and refined their designs to make their games fun and challenging. Recently we launched our next exciting task- designing and building a marble run! Inspired by the Marble Olympics, students are working collaboratively in small groups of two or three to plan and construct their runs using paper, scissors and tape. The classroom is already buzzing with innovative ideas and teamwork as students explore how to use movement, speed and gravity in their designs.

What's up in Yr 5?

This week, our Year 5 students had a wonderful opportunity to support and encourage their Prep buddies during Mini Olympics. The excitement on the Preps’ faces when they saw their buddies cheering them on was truly heart warming. It has been a joy watching these relationships grow throughout the year, and the strong bonds they have built are something very special.

In our Connect unit, Year 5s have been hard at work developing their own business plans. Students have conducted surveys, designed logos and slogans, and are now beginning to create prototypes for our end of year market. It has been fantastic to see such creativity, teamwork, and initiative within each group.

We have also started practising our winter interschool sports in preparation for next year. Students have been rotating through Softball, Football, and Volley Stars, building skills and confidence across all three sports.

We are looking forward to a busy and exciting final few weeks of Term 4!

Work begins!

Work begins!

The temporary fencing is up around the junior playground as the re-development finally begins! Workers have started removing components of the playground before more major deconstruction begins.

There was quite the crowd at lunchtime as students watched on the digger begin its work.

Access around the main building is retained, but you will no longer be able to access the school via the gate on Carool Rd next to the Prep Pod.

The playground will be out of commission until the start of the school year in 2026, but we can't wait for the new look!
