Year 3
Week 4, Term 2
We’ve got a fun and busy term ahead in Year 3!
This term in Reading, we’re working on building vocabulary and helping students use clues in the text to figure out tricky words. We’ll also be practising visualising, finding the main idea, and summarising. Later on, we’ll dive into our novel study of Brindabella.
In Writing, we’re starting with biographies. Students will choose a person to research and learn how to organise their ideas and write in a clear structure. Later in the term, we’ll move into historical fiction, where they’ll create their own stories based on what life was like in the past.
In Maths, we’re focusing on multiplication and division and building confidence with different strategies. We’ll also cover measurement, time, and 3D shapes, before moving into place value and data later in the term.
Our Connected Learning is all about exploring First Nations Australian history and culture, including learning about the impact of British arrival.
Starting this Friday (April 24th), Year 3 and 4 students will be participating in three, 3 week elective rotations after lunch. Groups will be made up of students from across Years 3 and 4 and will be led by one of the 3/4 teachers. Students have had the opportunity to rank their preferences, and every effort has been made to ensure they receive as many of their top choices as possible.
As part of this program, students may take part in “Cooking with Miss Simon.” If your child is participating in the cooking elective, please see the ingredient list below and inform your child’s teacher via Compass Connect of any allergies or dietary requirements. Please see Compass for the electives your child will be participating in over the next 9 weeks.
