From the Prin

Japanese Cultural Day

On Tuesday we celebrated out Language Other Than English (LOTE) with our Japanese Cultural Day. From Prep to Year 6, students and staff got into the theme of the day with splashes of red and white colours and Japanese pop culture outfits. Of particular highlight was our very own Squirtle (Hong Sensei!). During the day students visited the hall for an incursion The Mottainai Eco Show. For more info head here

Prep Info Night

On Tuesday night we welcomed around 45 visitors to the area upstairs in our main building for our 2027 Prep Information Night. Along with our weekly school tours and Storytime sessions, the night allows us to share our school's story with new parents. I want to thank Bec Bishop, President of PA for enthusiastically promoting the school and PA as part of her section, and four of our student leaders - Emily, Olivia, Connor and Stephanie, for speaking so well in front of a room full of adults. Thank you also to Lori Giannaris and Sonja Newnham for fielding parent questions as they hosted them in their classrooms. A reminder that if you have another child who will be starting with us in 2027, we have a place for them! But we do need you to go through the enrollment process via this link  - https://students.educationapps.vic.gov.au/s/

Cross Country Day

Last week we completed our House Cross Country event. To see a list of results and those that will now head off to the District level of competition, click here. We are still looking for parent helpers for the October 19th event where we need assistance as track marshalls. If you can help (and get a chance to cheer on your child!) please contact the office or Mr Worlley.

Scott Darlow

On Monday, we were visited by Scott Darlow -  singer songwriter, (signed to Mushroom music, music is played on commercial radio stations Australia wide), speaker from Melbourne Australia, and also an Aboriginal man. He is also a former high school teacher and for the last 20 years, he’s been using music to connect with students and teachers in 100+ schools a year all over Australia, the UK, Asia and even South Africa to share his culture, his peoples stories, his heart for racial reconciliation and help shape the next generation of global citizens. Scott shared his story in sessions with the Years 1 to 6 students across the day before taking a session with staff after school.

Mother's Day morning

It's was so wonderful to see so many people at this week's Mother's Day event! A huge thank you to organisers Sarah, Dana, Anita, Lucy, Jaya, Kate, Gemma and Sam. You can check out some photos and read more about those who made it happen by following this link.

Here comes Winter

This week we have been hit with an icy blast of early winter and it's a good reminder that as the weather changes, so do clothing requirements. We don't have a "summer" or "winter" uniform, but there are many options for warmer clothing. Please ensure your child comes to school with a jumper. I know many students seem to be allergic to wearing them, but it's important to have with them everyday. A rain jacket and umbrella are also good additions, particularly if your child walks to or from school each day. Gloves or beanies are also options if your child particularly feels the cold. When it's raining at recess and lunch time there are two possibilities. If the rain is light or likely to pass by students will be instructed to stay undercover. If the rain is heavier, persistent and unlikely to stop students will be supervised in their classrooms.

Best wishes, Miss Abbott

Today is the final day for the year for Miss Abbott. Soon she will welcome her first born with her husband Tim. We wish the two of them all the best as they begin their family.

What's up in Yr 5

Year 5 students have made a fantastic start to Term 2. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they reconnected with their Prep Pals, sharing stories and reflecting on their recent school holidays.

This term, students have also begun their Biography unit in Writing. They are eagerly researching a historical figure, exploring key life events, and developing their understanding of the past through detailed investigation and inquiry.

We were also fortunate to welcome Scott Darlow, who visited the school to lead an engaging incursion on First Nations Peoples and share his experiences as an Indigenous musician. Students gained valuable insight into culture, storytelling, and history through his presentation.

In addition, we celebrated a Japanese Cultural Day, which included an exciting incursion and a special visit from Squirtle, making the experience both fun and memorable for students.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2026

What a wonderful turn out it was Friday morning for our annual Mother's Day morning in the hall. Mothers and other special people enjoyed scones and cream, barista coffee and cinnamon tea as they took part in arts and craft. Colouring in and origami skills were on display with parents and children shared time together creating keepsakes. There was a long line for the photo booth opportunities, and luckily everyone got through to get their happy snaps.

We need to thank a number of people for making this event the success it was. Firstly, our Year 3 Reps who organised everything - Sarah, Dana, Anita, Lucy, Jaya, Kate, Gemma and Sam. They were supported by a number of other people we need to thank -

Ash Howarth from Marshall White for his financial support

Team Kids for the coffee van

Sanchi for the Cinnamon Brew

Lulubelle for the scones

The morning event is followed by a lunch event on Friday which we hope everyone will enjoy!

Japanese Cultural Day

Newsletter Week 3 - Japanese

We celebrated our Japanese Cultural Day on 5 May, which is also Children’s Day in Japan. It was wonderful to see our students dressed in red, white, or Japanese-inspired costumes, including some traditional outfits.

To mark this special occasion, students created koi fish arts and crafts. In Japan, koinobori (carp streamers) are traditionally displayed outside homes on this day.

We also enjoyed a whole-school incursion, where students participated in games and learned about the concept of mottainai and the importance of being environmentally responsible. Both students and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Each year, we invite a special guest, and this year was no exception. Squirtle from Pokémon visited each class to say hello and join in the celebrations of Japanese Cultural Day.
